A young Irish mother has spoken out about her daughter’s meningitis diagnosis.
Helen Treanor from Galway spoke to ‘ACT for Meningitis’ about her experience of the illness with her first child Arlene.
After noticing that her daughter wasn’t acting like herself, and despite being told by a doctor that it was nothing serious, Helen consulted her own doctor.
From there she was told to take her straight to the hospital where she was later diagnosed with and treated for bacterial meningitis.
She said that the consultant at the hospital told her: “Whatever was coming was potentially very serious and you just happened to be in the right place at the right time.”
