‘This simple and affordable drink spike test can quickly detect common drugs’

Check your drink

Drink spiking has become an alarming and growing issue globally, with a major increase in reported incidents.

With Christmas season in full swing, there is an Irish company that we think you should know about.

NeutraPharma is a medical devices distributor, based in Cork, and it’s one of the most significant pharmaceutical manufacturing hubs in Europe.

One of our lovely followers on Instagram brought a product of theirs to our attention, and so we’re passing on this important information;  it’s called CYD (Check Your Drink).

It offers an easy-to-use, highly effective solution to detect the presence of widely used drink-spiking drugs in seconds.

What is CYD?

CYD is a simple drink spike test that can quickly detect common drugs used in drink spiking.

These include:

  • Pharmaceutical GHB (Xyrem)
  • Ketamine
  • Cocaine
  • Scopolamine
  • Amphetamines MDMA, and any drugs containing amines

How Does CYD Work?

Using CYD is easy, according to their website, and requires just a few seconds to determine if a drink is safe.

  1. Apply a small drop of your drink to the pink and yellow colour-coded areas of the test strip.
  2. Observe any changes in colour. If either area turns orange or grey/blue, the drink may be spiked and should not be consumed.

CYD’s reliability has been rigorously tested. Both the GHB and Ketamine tests were developed and verified by:

  • Clinical Trials Laboratory Services (CTLS)
  • University of Strathclyde

Further validation testing was recently carried out in June 2024 by Lucideon, UK, confirming the accuracy and effectiveness of CYD.

A 2018 report from the EMCDDA exposed the global rise in this crime, while more recent Irish studies underline its concerning impact, according to NeutraPharma:

  • 57% of respondents know someone who has been spiked
  • 54% of respondents are more fearful of drink spiking now than five years ago

The scale of the problem is also seen in figures showing a 9-fold increase in drink spiking incidents in Ireland between 2020 and 2022, according to data from the Minister for Justice.

CYD empowers people with a simple and effective way to protect themselves from the dangers of drink spiking.

It’s available in packs of 5 test strips, is compact, portable, and can easily fit into a pocket, purse, or bag.

CYD is available both online and in pharmacies across Europe, ensuring everyone can access this essential tool to safeguard their drinks.
