Mum of women injured in M9 crash says her ‘focus is completely on the girls’

The mother of the three sisters seriously injured in the M9 crash has shared an update

The mother of the three women seriously injured in the M9 crash has shared an update. The family issued a statement on a GoFundMe set up for the sisters.

The fundraiser has raised an incredible €795,042 so far.

Niamh and Alma Kinsella, who are in their 30s, were rushed to hospital in a critical condition after their car collided with a group of teenagers who were driving the wrong way down the motorway in Co Kildare on Sunday.

Their younger sister Ella Hendricken, who is in her 20s, was also seriously injured in the crash along with her seven-year-old nephew when their Hyundai was hit at a speed of more than 120km/h.

Niamh and Alma are understood to have been in the front of the vehicle while the boy and Ella were in the back of the car near Moone shortly before 3 am when they were hit.

The family, from Carlow, were headed for Dublin Airport for a family wedding in the UK.

Clare, the mother of the three girls, says their focus is entirely on their daughters.

“Our focus is completely on the girls and being together as a family. We wanted to take a moment as a family to say a heartfelt thank you to every single person who has supported Ella, Niamh and Alma.

“The kindness and generosity shown to our family has been truly overwhelming. From everyone who has donated, shared the fundraiser, sent messages, kept us in their thoughts or supported us in any way, please know how much it means to all of us.”

“Right now, our focus is completely on the girls and being together as a family. We aren’t ready to share any further details at this stage, and we really appreciate everyone continuing to respect our privacy.”

The family expressed their gratitude to the public for the waves of support they have received since the crash.

“What we did want to do was personally acknowledge the incredible support we’ve received. Seeing so many people come together for the girls has meant more to us than we could ever properly put into words. Thank you for continuing to keep Ella, Niamh and Alma in your thoughts and for all the love and support you’ve shown our family.”

The five teenagers killed in the crash have been named as Joey Carthy (15) and Jack Kennedy (17) from Athy, Co Kildare; Alex McCarthy (17) and his cousin Jeremy O’Brien (18) from Carlow; and Kamil Pustkowski (17) from Limerick.
