Paris’s Gare du Nord has reopened after last night’s security scare

The Gare du Nord train station in central Paris has reopened after a security threat led to an evacuation at approximately 11pm last night.

Le Parisien newspaper reports that the operation, in the 10th arrondissement, focused on a high speed train that had arrived in the station from Valenciennes in northern France.

The 200 people on board were confined to their trains from around 10:50pm as armed police searched the station.

According to local reports, the operation was part of a manhunt for three “dangerous” terror suspects, who remain at large.

The Paris police confirmed that the evacuation and search was to “dispel any doubt” about a threat.

Gare du Nord is the main stop in Paris for Eurostar trains from London as well as Thalys high-speed trains to and from Brussels and Amsterdam and local urban transport lines.

With around 214 million passengers travelling through per year, it is the busiest railway station in Europe.
