We’re finally getting a Gilmore Girls documentary
HBO has announced that a Gilmore Girls documentary is officially in the works.
According to Variety, the documentary will be told from the perspective of series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband, executive producer Daniel Palladino.
Gilmore Girls has become a cult classic since it first aired in 2000. The beloved show ran for seven seasons, and later returned to our TV screens with Netflix’s Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
Gilmore Girls has long been one of my all-time favourite shows, so knowing we will be returning to Stars Hollow in some way feels like a huge comfort. It is one of those shows that never fails to make you feel safe and reassured. Maybe it’s the simplicity of just watching Lorelai and Rory’s lives unfold in Stars Hollow, or maybe it’s the nostalgia element that makes us feel so soothed when rewatching it every autumn.
Knowing the team behind one of our most favourite shows will return to honour the Gilmore Girls legacy is pretty exciting. As much as we’d love to see the show return to our screens, getting a behind-the-scenes look at the show that shaped many of us is just as special.
Lead actress Lauren Graham is attached to the project. She shared the news on Instagram and simply wrote, “Oh hey, hi… we’re making a documentary,” alongside photos from the show.
According to HBO, the Gilmore Girls documentary “reveals how the show eclipsed expectations to become a cross-generational phenomenon by unpacking the unique alchemy of the creators, cast, crew and collaborators. The film includes never-before-seen outtakes, behind-the-scenes footage, and script pages.”
The team has not yet confirmed what other cast members are taking part in the documentary, but we’re hoping Kelly Bishop, Alexis Bledel, Scott Paterson, Yanic Truesdale, Melissa McCarthy, Keiko Agena, and Liza Weil join the project.
And depending on your team (we’re Team Jess), we’d be happy to see Jared Padalecki, Milo Ventimiglia, or Matt Czuchry return, too.
