The movie adaptation will be released this September
Amazon MGM Studios has finally given us a release date for one of our most anticipated book-to-screen adaptations of the year. The Love Hypothesis, adapted from Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling STEM romance novel of the same name, will be released on Prime Video on September 23rd.
Prime Video took to social media to make the announcement, where they said that there’s “just a little something brewing…” before confirming that The Love Hypothesis will arrive on the platform on September 23rd.
Starring Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman, The Love Hypothesis follows third year PHD student Olive Smith, as a crisis lands her in a fake relationship with renowned professor Adam Carlson. Desperate to prove to her best friend Anh that she’s not single, Olive develops an unlikely alliance with the professor, but could it be something more?
“What begins as a desperate act of friendship spirals into a fake relationship with rules, boundaries, and a mutually beneficial agreement,” as said in the film’s logline.
“When their arrangement begins to blur the lines between performance and reality, Olive is forced to test her most daunting hypothesis yet: that love might actually be worth the risk.”
Additional cast in the film include Rachel March as Anh, Olive’s best friend, and Nicholas Duvernay as Olive’s crush, Jeremy.
The film will be directed by Claire Scanlan, with a script written by Sarah Rothschild. Produced by Elizabeth Cantillon, The Love Hypothesis is one of the many book-to-screen adaptations coming our way on Prime Video in 2026.
